Travel Info for Tour to Buenos Aires and Peru:

Travel Info for Tour to Buenos Aires and Peru:

  1. Weather and clothing:

1.a. Buenos Aires:

September to November will be spring in Buenos Aires and the weather can be pleasant, but some days cold and rainy. Layered clothing is important for instance a sweater and a warm rain resistant jacket.

  1. b. Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu:

September and October is suppose to be before the rainy season. In the highlands it will be chilly in the afternoons and it can also be cold at night.

Dress with clothing in layers (t – shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweater, jacket) so you can "peel" them off as it gets warmer. Bring a small backpack to carry clothing etc. Use comfortable walking shoes or "takkies" for your sight seeing excursions.

1.c. Amazon

Make sure that you have a small backpack or bag, because we will leave our luggage in Cusco and only take "jungle clothes" to the Lodge in the Amazon. Make sure that your windbreaker or jacket is rainproof. The temperature can vary from sticky hot to mild and chilly. Remember to wear your takkies or walking shoes when we go to the Amazon. Mosquito and insect repellent will also be necessary.

Gear

The Lodge in the Amazon recommend the following gear.

Waterproof rain poncho.

Sweater or smart wool pull over / well-insulated windbreaker or jacket.

Walking shoes / flip-flops / hiking boots.

Socks.

Long & short sleeved shirts / blouses and T-shirts.

Long pants.

Wide brimmed cloth hat / bandana.

Gloves / mitts.

Sunglasses (UV protection type).

Extra pair of prescription glasses if necessary.

Eyeglass straps.

Insect repellent & sunscreen.

Canteen or small water bottle, plus personal toiletries and medicines.

Powerful portable flashlight or headlamp.  Extra batteries.

Daypack.

  1. Medical:

Please make sure that your insurance will cover any unforeseen medical expenditure.

Yellow fever inoculation is compulsory and Hepatitis advisable. Amanda Fourie at the Travel Clinic at the Clock Tower Centre in the Waterfront Tel: 021 419 1888 advise that the best prophylaxes for Malaria for the Amazon area is Doxi-Tabs or Malarone. Please call on your medical practitioner or travel clinic for more info.
